Rewterz Threat Alert – REvil Ransomware – Active IOCs

June 14, 2022

Severity

High

Analysis Summary

The REvil – alias Sodinokibi & Sodin – is a Ransomware-as-a-service. The threat actor behind this malware is Pinchy Spider. REvil’s initial attack occurred in the middle of April 2019, and it drew a lot of attention from the InfoSec community owing to its striking resemblance to GandCrab Ransomware. The gang employs a variety of ransomware distribution mechanisms, including exploit kits, scanning, and the exploitation of vulnerable software (Oracle WebLogic), RDP servers, and backdoored software installers. Revil has made an estimated $100 million by infecting significant business owners, and they have threatened to release data if the victim does not pay the ransom. Before encryption, malicious intruders steal important information. When ransoms are not paid, victims’ data has been known to be posted on the dark web to humiliate them. The construction, manufacturing, and finance industries remain the top target of this ransomware.
