Analysis Summary
COVID-19 vaccination program is being used in a variety of malicious campaigns including email spam, BEC, malware, ransomware, and malicious domains. As the number of those afflicted continue to surge by thousands, campaigns that use the disease as a lure likewise increase. COVID-19 is being weaponized for scare tactics by threat actors for conducting malicious activity utilizing different Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs). Threat actors are luring using lure documents and malicious lookalike URLs to lure users to visit malicious websites and asking for their credentials and other personal information which can be later misused against the victim. This time around, threat actors have turned their shift towards the vaccination program, multiple malicious files have been pushed to the users to get themselves vaccinated along with their families. These files have been consistently pushed in various regions with a sense of urgency among the users to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.
The timing of this campaign is important since the world has now adapted to this change in the environment and everyone is now undergoing the vaccination program. A lot of discrepancies have already been discovered regarding the vaccination program and this has got the attention of the threat actors and now they’re exploiting in full flow.
